When you and your family enter the BC-SCORES System of Care, you are an equal voice with everyone else on your team. Maybe you’ve got some conflicts that make it hard to pay attention in school, make you lash out at your brothers and sisters, make you angry, make you unhappy -and you might think that means that nobody will listen to you. But, your experiences and your struggles are what make you an authority.

You are the only person, who can say what it's like to be you.

Your team in the System of Care will listen to you.

Our services are “youth guided”, which means that the youth getting mental health or other services through the System of Care:

  • sit at the table at the same time the adults do
  • help develop their family’s goals and plans
  • and get their voices heard!

Youth voice is important to BC-SCORES and the Youth Coordinator has various activities to help youth with self-esteem, social outings, education, and learning.

Youth can participate in:

·         Education and training classes to become empowered and educated on how to become advocates for themselves or others.

·         Meetings, where they start to learn and understand how to use their voice within the System of Care.

·         Working with the Social Marketing staff to be included in events through exercising their creativity and having their voices heard.

·         Social activities.

Youth play a part in the system by:

·           Identifing the goals of their youth group.

·           Starting to learn how to work together as part of a team.

·           Learning the importance of their voice.

·           Learning how to speak clearly about their wants, needs, and goals.
